A Certfied Service-Connected Disabled Veteran-Owned Business

ZMassociates provides integrated environmental services that help businesses and government increase market share, manage environmental issues, and become more responsive to customers with sustainable strategies that lead to greater short- and long-term success. Its co-founders draw upon 50 years of combined experience working with a wide range of organizations from small start-ups to large multinational concerns and complex government entities. A certified disabled veteran-owned small business, the Portland, Oregon-based firm with offices in Southern California, works with a broad network of expert partners to deliver the highest level of service and expertise at the lowest possible cost.

• For a massive, multiparty federal superfund site located in Southern California, ZMassociates developed an EPA and South Coast Air Quality Management District approved off-gas VOCs air monitoring program designed to assure agencies, the public, and near by residences that it was safe to breathe the air. This program includes weekly EPA Method TO-15 air monitoring of the off-gas emissions coming from vapor phase carbon adsorber systems treating emissions from air strippers. Air stripper technology is being used to clean up the drinking water supply for Southern California.
• ZMassociates developed and implemented a robust data management system for a private client located in Southern California. This system is designed to store and analyze air monitoring data necessary for the reports required by local air agencies and the federal EPA. The data consisted of air monitoring data, cancer risk calculations and dispersion modeling results and input data.
• ZMassociates created risk calculation models for another California client. The firm also developed reports requested by the regulatory agencies.
• For a large biotechnology firm, ZMassociates developed a strategic environmental, health and safety stewardship plan that extends beyond basic compliance and best management practices to take the company to the forefront in effective economic planning, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. This move solidified the company’s leading role in the global biotechnology market.
• In government, ZMassociates staff is working with the Oregon Secretary of State, Bill Bradbury, and the Oregon Sustainability Board to bring sustainability to Oregon school districts across the state. This project is designed to develop a compendium of best management practices, involve stakeholders, mentors, coaches and experts to improve environmental, social and economic practices in Oregon schools and conserve public funds.
• For a private university, ZMassociates is developing environmental, safety, health, and security programs that will reduce exposure and risk to the students, faculty, visitors, and the university. These practices will also help educate students and faculty on systems thinking and how to increase the university’s sustainability.
• ZMassociates staff helped a high technology firm to identify and reduce unnecessary expenses buried in a complex organization with a high-level audit of environmental performance and costs. Our staff rapidly identified several opportunities to eliminate or reduce spending and taxes, which amounted to annual savings of $500,000.
• To help a retail manufacturer, ZMassociates staff developed a method for managing the laws, rules and attitudes in the global marketplace governing chemical substances in its products. We created a plan for a global restricted substance database. With this database, the company could easily keep abreast of all regulations, policies and issues around the world. This innovative solution reduced the company’s risk in selling to other countries and drastically cut costs, while minimizing the threat of damaging lawsuits.
